Mary’s Office

One of the last untouched rooms in the house was my wife’s office, which had been more or less in the same state since buying the house in 2013. It looked pretty sad compared to the other remodeled rooms on the top floor of the house and needed a redesign with some more color and light. Additionally, the guest bathroom connected to it needed a similar treatment to the master bathroom.

The first step was to repaint everything:

Once that was done, all of the existing furniture was removed and I brought in a new rug. Here was the initial design board that I worked on with my interior designer:

Things started to take shape with the rug and some of the new furniture in place, especially the large white bookcase.

From there, we replaced the desk and chair (with temporary stand-ins until the real furniture is completed towards the end of the year), brought back the books and added more decor and wall art.

Finally, I brought in a new recliner and lamp for the corner, and the aside from a new window treatment currently being custom made and the real desk, the project was done!

The before and after is a pretty shocking improvement in my opinion:

Office Reorganization

I recently reorganized my home office, which is really more of a sports memorabilia shrine than a true office. The first thing I did was to remove a large number of the books and move them to the library. The remaining books were moved to the shelves with glass doors. I also removed the bar glassware and bottles, aside from the scotch in the liquor cabinet. I then purchased a large number of shadow boxes and other display frames, and redesigned the layout of some of the memorabilia on the shelves.

The end result looks much cleaner and more organized, and better shows off everything on display.

Office Move

This past week, my company finally relocated. It was a long process to pack up the old offices and a long day on Tuesday coordinating movers to move all of the furniture and setup the new offices, but things are coming along nicely.

First, we packed the old offices:

After that, we started loading the trucks and emptying out the old office.

After that, we started moving the furniture into the new offices.

Finally, we got all of the workstations and offices setup, and the office started to come to life.

The last thing we did was setup the conference room and executive offices. I’m happy with how mine turned out!

We are still waiting for new chairs to arrive, and still need to get the reception desk, bar, and other things setup, but we are well on our way to being fully moved in and the new space is awesome.

New Offices

Aside from my two houses, the other construction project I’ve been involved with has been a new corporate headquarters for my company. For the last 9 years we’ve been headquartered at the Verex Plaza building in Madison. We’re getting ready to move to the new Spark Building, and are building out new offices. Here are some in progress photos, about a month away from move in:

The floor plans of the new offices give a little bit better sense of how everything will be laid out:

As the offices are completed, I’ll post more photos. It will be a beautiful space, with a lot of natural light and a modern interior.
