Shortly after returning from a trip to Barcelona, Southern Wisconsin was hit by a number of large storms, which included very high winds. Up at the lake house, this resulted in numerous downed trees, and left a lot of chaos.

While it was disheartening to see some of the railing that I’d recently worked on be destroyed, it could have been much worse. The house and the deck were largely spared, and the sections of railing that were hit were not difficult to repair. The first step, however, was to remove all of the fallen trees, and to take down several additional heavily damaged trees.

Once that was done, I got to work repairing and replacing the damaged railing:

That concluded the work I was planning on doing with the lake house stairs this year. Next spring, I’m planning on working with a contractor who has a barge and other heavy equipment, who will be able to help me further clean up the beach. For now, I’m content that the beach is accessible and usable, and that the walk down to the beach is clear from debris.
