While I wait for the next big lake house project (replacing the deck next spring), I’ve knocked out some smaller tasks that have been on my to-do list for awhile. First, I replaced the microwave in the upstairs kitchen, since the previous one had been destroyed by a power surge in one of the big summer storms. This time around, I made sure to install a surge protector; lesson learned.

I also installed simple window treatments in the master bedroom, since in the summer the early sunrises frequently lead to sun in our eyes in the mornings. I didn’t want to block the windows during the day though, so the drapes I installed can be pulled to the side to let as much light in as possible:

Lastly, I have the barge crew coming next week to do some winter beach clean up to make sure that the beach is good to go for spring. They’ll be resetting the stone stairs that shifted slightly and will also be clearing more rocks that were exposed as some of the sand was washed away during the course of the summer.

As winter sets in, things are looking significantly less tropical for the moment sadly:

Since the beach and the pool aren’t an option any more, I’ve at least been able to make ample use of the hot tub, which makes the winter weather more bearable!
