Now that warm weather is once again on the horizon, I’ve started working my way through the usual spring landscaping tasks. Before things were consistently warm enough to start planting and working on the lawn, I cleaned out the ditches alongside Range Trail, which accumulate trash and other debris during the winter. I then spent several weekends pulling out dead trees and other underbrush from the woods around the house, which had been sorely needed after a lot of the landscaping upheaval that happened when we installed the pool. It was hard work that resulted in lots of cuts and scrapes, but eventually I managed to pull out close to a dozen truckloads of lumber and brush:

In addition to clearing out the woods, I also cleared the prairie area and rock wall on the hill behind the house, which is much more open now that one of the large Norwegian Pines had to be taken down at the end of last year.

Once all of the heavy labor was done and the brush was hauled away, I was able to start working on more typical annual landscaping tasks: fertilizing the lawn and bringing in mulch. This year I used three full pallets of mulch, which I was able to make pretty short work of using a combination of the Super Duty and the ATV.

Along with all of the landscaping, I also opened up the pool and did the initial spring start-up chemical treatments, and vacuumed and swept out the garages.

Most of the hard work is done, but I still have some tasks left. Later this week I’ll open up the lake house and pick up the boat from winter storage, and then I’ll have the following tasks left at the Verona house:
- Move Pool Furniture Outside
- Arbor Vida and Shrub Replacement
- Grass Seed Touch Ups
- Plant Flowers
