As is the case every spring, once the snow melts and the ground thaws there is a lot to do to get the house ready for spring and summer. Here was my initial list at the start of spring:
- Hang Three Season Room TV
- Vacuum and Sweep Garages
- Take Down Dead Tree By Pool Equipment
- Fertilize Lawn
- Mulch
- Arbor Vidae Replacement
- Plant Flowers
- Additional Grass Seed on Paths
- Plant More Ivy
Those tasks kept me busy for quite a few weekend!

I was very happy with how everything turned out. One of the highlights was seeing how much the view from the front of the house looking towards the pool and the view from the pool looking towards the house opened up once the tree and nearby bushes at the corner of the house were removed:

While all of the aforementioned landscaping work was going on, I had to open the pool for spring. We had a little bit of a hiccup with that, since we had an extended power outage shortly after the initial pool opening that caused it to turn into a farm pond, but I was able to bring it back to life pretty quickly.

It’s amazing how beautiful everything looks from inside the pool now!

The last major task after the landscaping and the pool was to continue to whip the lawn into shape, which will be something that keeps me busy throughout the summer. Before I could do that, I had to replace my old push-mower. I opted for a self-propelled electric mower, which has been amazing so far and much easier to use.

I’m still using the same zero-turn riding mower as last year, but I had to replace the belt that drives the blades, since the previous one snapped on the first mowing of the year. It was a time-consuming but fun process to learn how to do myself.

After the mowers were both back in service, I started bringing the lawn to life. Since there hasn’t been any major construction at the house in awhile, the lawn is looking pretty lush and I’ve been able to focus on improving a few rough spots as opposed to having to plant or repair massive sections. It’s still early in the summer, but I’m proud of how it’s looking so far!
