Every year when summer ends and fall arrives, it means two things for me: football season, and a lot of maintenance tasks to make sure both houses are ready for winter. One of the first tasks is getting the boat out of the water for winter storage, along with taking the awning cover off of the boat lift. That process went smoothly this year, with no major issues:

After taking care of the boat, the next task was to move all of the pool furniture into winter storage, and to have the pool winterized:

By far the most work of my fall prep tasks was to get the yard into shape for winter. This year, I spent a lot of extra time on the lawn to try and make sure that it ends up in the best shape possible for next spring. I did some additional fall seeding, along with the usual fertilizer, weed killer, and leave removal. In previous years, I had left too many leaves on the lawn in certain places, and it led to snow mold that forced me to replant more grass than I’d have liked.

Finally, I had to bring the TV in from the three season room, and make sure that the three season room and guest house were ready for winter. Before this though, I made heavy use of both for the first half of football season!

As we head into winter, I’ve got a few projects earmarked to tackle:
- Lake House Appliance Repair
- Lake House Window Treatments
- New Paint and Carpet in the Master Closet
I also already have projects lined up for spring, most notably replacing the lake house deck. I’m looking forward to the weather getting warmer, and to being able to get started on that!
