In early August, Lake Wisconsin got hit multiple weekends in a row by very severe thunderstorms with extremely high winds. Unfortunately, the second one was bad enough that it decided to send a massive pine tree straight through the new deck and part of the lake house roof!
Thankfully, Acuity Insurance sprung into action. Between this and repairing my Bentley last summer after hitting a deer, I cannot say enough good things about how fantastic their claims service is. They are expensive, but they consistently go above and beyond the call of duty when required. Almost immediately, we had a tree service come out and remove the tree. Right after that, repair men came and installed a temporary cover over the broken part of the roof so that no further water damage would occur.
After that, the same crew that built the new deck came and repaired it. In their delightful Amish way, the first thing the lead builder William said when he say the damage was, “oh deary me!” Thankfully, in a single day they were able to get things fixed:
The last step was repairing the roof. As mentioned above, Acuity is excellent and green-lit an entire new roof. They also repaired the broken trim and soffits, and were able to create new soffits from scratch to match the previous ones from the 1970’s, keeping the same midcentury modern look of the house intact.
Once the new trim and soffits are painted, everything will be good as new!
