Over the past several years I’ve done numerous repair jobs on the last flight of stairs leading down towards the water, and I’ve also done a lot of work to keep the beach in good shape. It’s difficult work to do by myself though, especially without a barge to haul equipment and materials down to the water. Given that, I decided to bring in professionals this spring to do two tasks: fully rebuild the last flight of stairs and fully resurface the beach. The latter task has yet to be done, but the former was completed over the last two weeks.
I worked with an Amish crew, who did a phenomenal job demolishing the old stairs, installing reinforced stringers, and building new stairs and railing:

Once their part of the construction was done, I stepped in and added some additional retaining walls to keep erosion at bay as much as possible, and then I stained everything to match the rest of the railing.

The end result looks phenomenal, feels extremely stable when walking on the stairs and grabbing the railing, and should hold up well for years to come. Now I just need to finish the beach restoration, and we can spend the rest of the summer enjoying it!
