After some severe weather this spring, I noticed that a couple of shingles had blown off of the roof. Thinking that some quick repair work would be all that was needed, I had the crew from Sunset Ridge Exteriors come out and take a look, since they did such a good job on the lake house roof a couple of years ago. They let me know some bad news, that the roof was on its last legs and needed to be replaced.
After coming to terms with the idea of dropping $50k on a new roof, I decided to also have them do some siding repair and gutter work at the same time, since that was sorely needed at the front of the house.
Despite the scale and cost of the project, it was pretty astonishing how quickly the crew completed the roof replacement. It took them around three days!

The end result looks great, if not all that different from before. The good news, though, is that the new roof is warrantied for 50 years. I’ll be 87 in 50 years, so hopefully this is the last major roof project I’ll have to pay for!

After the roof was done, the crew came back to do the siding work. The wood siding in the front of the house had been rotting, and so I decided to have it replaced with vinyl siding that matched the previous look of the wood siding but will be more durable during Wisconsin winters.

While the before and after from this entire project may not be particularly impressive, I’m definitely pleased with the result and am happy to have such an expensive but necessary project in the rearview mirror.
