Home Improvement Projects at a Country Home in Verona, WI
Over Memorial Day Weekend, my wife and I spent the long weekend at the lake house and I got everything ready to go for summer. First, I did some minor repair and repainting work on the stairs and railing going down to the water. Next, I repainted the shed and did other paint touchups around … Continue reading Lake House Open For Summer
As furniture was replaced during all of the interior design projects at the main house in Verona over the past year, I had been moving it to a storage unit. Some of it has been donated, but some of it I had earmarked to replace even older furniture at the lake house or the guest … Continue reading Storage Unit Furniture Swap
Now that winter is giving way to spring and the weather is warming up, I’ve started getting the lake house ready for summer. Last week, I went up and cleared out fallen branches and leaves from the winter, and made sure the stairs were free from damage. As always, the view was beautiful! The paint … Continue reading Lake House Open for Spring
We finally have the dock in the water, which is nice even though it took until mid August. In the chaos of getting the boat lift and boat moved over to the Bayview Boat Club, along with the persistent high waters on our part of Lake Wisconsin, I think that Deano Docks forgot about our … Continue reading Dock Is In
This weekend I finished the lake house stair project for the summer. I first stained the new concrete with a concrete stain, and after that I sprayed semi-transparent redwood stain on all of the new wood. The end result looks really good! As always, the view from the stairs is beautiful. Continue reading Staining Stairs
This weekend, aside from spending time on the boat and watching my beloved Arsenal win their first match of the season at Newcastle, I poured new concrete footings for some of the lake house stair railing, along with pouring concrete to repair stairs that had eroded. To pour the footings, I had to build some … Continue reading Pouring Concrete
This past weekend, I completed the final wood construction components of the stair repair and replacement for this summer. I finished the last section of railing that needed to be replaced, and replaced the last set of stair planks that needed to be replaced. It’s been hot, sweaty work this summer, and I’m kind of … Continue reading Lake House Stair Railing and Planks
Over the past several weeks, I’ve been replacing rotting planks and rebuilding landings on the stairway down to the lake at the lake house. Before that, I had to clear away a ton of dirt and sand than had slid off the cliff face over the past two years. This was a lot of work, … Continue reading Rebuilding Lake House Stairway Landings
Over the Fourth of July weekend, I was finally able to get the boat in the water! The prior week, the owner of the Bayview Boat Club was able to get a barge crew to install the lift in the water, after Deano Docks was unable or unwilling to. It took a little bit of … Continue reading Boat Lift Setup
After a second consecutive year of terrible weather and flooding on the Wisconsin River during the month of June, I made a somewhat drastic decision: I bought a slip at the Bayview Boat Club in Tipperary Bay on Lake Wisconsin, which is a much more stable part of the lake. I’m maintaining by dock at … Continue reading Bayview Boat Club
